Shabby to Chic
Ok maybe not shabby but definitely more boring. Plain to Fab. Lately, my favorite thing to do is buy cheap clothes for V, like tshirts at Walmart or Target and snazz them up to look boutique-ish. I have ridiculous amounts of ribbon, trim, lace and buttons so I just add a bunch of fluff and get a completely new piece! Check out some I have been working on...
(TOTALLY OFF TOPIC BUT V HAS BEEN GETTING BETTER AND BETTER AT WALKING! SHE TOOK 7 STEPS IN A ROW YESTERDAY! FAST LEARNER!)
This is my favorite I think. I bought a plain tank online for like $6 from a t-shirt wholesaler and created a whole outfit around it. I used a knit butterfly fabric for most of it (t-shirt material) which I love since it doesn't fray so I don't have to hem it. It was only like $4 at Beverly's fabrics. I added some ruffles to the top and made a pair of bloomers with matching ruffles and pink crocheted lace. And of course a matching butterfly headband. The only problem was that I used a pattern for the bloomers for size 12-18 mo. The leg holes were cutting off her circulation. Rats. So today I will be fixing that. V's ham hocks are more size 4T I think.
I bought this tank at Walmart for $4. Added some crochet lace, gray knit fabric and a little trim. Complete with matching leg warmers.
This top and skort were $4 each at Target. I love the idea of what I did but not loving the colors too much. I have a hard time putting anything but purple and pink on her. Ridiculous I know. I just love the girly girly stuff (like you didn't know this). But I need to try new things so V will wear it. Needs a headband first though. Basically all I did was ruffle some knit fabric and sew it straight to the top to create the flowers. Then I ruffled some satin ribbon and sewed it on with some leaves. Easy peasy. And I only sewed the front and back of the shirt together once. That's improvement.
This was a ballerina dress I bought at Old Navy. A little too plain for me. Added some felt flowers I bought on etsy, rhinestone buttons and a hot pink bow. Much more my, I mean Violet's, style. he he.

Quick Fixes
I bought Violet these adorable Disney Princess pjs from Walmart for $5 in size 18 months. We excitedly went home (ok maybe I was the only excited one) and put them on. Ok what the heck. We could barely get the shirt on and once we did it looked like a skin tight work out shirt. Under Armour for babies. It also was about 2 inches above her belly button. I wish I took a picture of it. It was literally comparable to a size 0-3 shirt. On the bright side, the pants fit great. So I guess if your baby is incredibly skinny and has a short torso, this might work.
Time for a quick fix! I had this 3 pack of hanes 2-3t cami tops that I bought hoping would fit V. They were too big and super wide (who makes these clothes anyhow? Do they not test them on babies?). So I turned the tank inside out, did a quick seam on either side about an inch in, eyeballing it- measuring takes to long. Then I cut out the Disney princess picture on the front of the shirt and sewed it to the front of the cami. Bada bing bada boom. Problem solved! I had bought another pj set in tinkerbell as well, so I whipped a top up for that too. 10 minutes tops to complete both! Now they should fit through the whole summer!
I also had these adorable dresses that were gifts given to me when she was first born. They are a longer length and I figured it would be hard for her to crawl with them covering her knees. So I bunched up the front on either side of the bottom of the dresses and put a few hand stitches in. I could have done it on the back too but I didn't want to spend anymore time on it. Since they are hand sewn, they can easily be removed once she is walking. Hooray for quick fixes!

Baby Lockdown Part 2
Take a peek at our baby jail. It's cozy, fun, filled with toys and best of all, Violet can't get out! Mommy may be able to get something done for once. I think baby jail will be a permanent fixture in our house for quite awhile.
I may even make V some black and white striped pj's to get the full affect.

Huge News
and I mean huge... Violet took her first two steps yesterday. My dad and sister Annie were over to pick something up and my dad lured her to him with his cell phone. She let go of the coffee table and took two wobbly steps. I couldn't be prouder of my little monkey. We tried to get her to do it again so we could tape it but she didn't want to.
Fuzz Head
So I know your all thinking Violet is awfully bald still.. well, just so know- she is growing hair... just very slowly. The fact that it is white blonde makes it really hard to see. I'm not talkin' pig tail time or anything, more like I could maybe velcro a bow to her head. Check out my fuzz head.

Lovin' the Outdoors
Violet would rather be outside than anywhere else. She LOVES it. As soon as we step outside or pull her out of the car she gets this huge grin. She can play in our backyard for hours. She doesn't even mind the stickers and rough weeds on her knees. She loves to get all dirty, pull leaves off branches, and maybe snack on a little dirt or blade of grass. It doesn't even phase her when the german shepherds knock her down or lick her entire head (its like a mama cat cleaning her kitten). She points at all the trees and things she sees (pointing is her thing right now). I love getting a little sunshine with my sunshine.
How cool is the editing on these? I did it all on my iphone! There is a rad app that has tons of effects.. similar to Picnik. Love love the last pic editing- very antique/grunge. Oh how I love you iphone.

Out to Eat
Whenever we go out to eat Violet always puts her foot up on the table. She sits back in the little highchair and plops that chubby little foot right up there. I guess a baby is the only one that could get away with it. I gotta admit, its too darn cute.
(see that man at the bar in the background? He thought Violet was so cute that he actually paid for our dinner at Lucilles.. $50 bucks! How crazy nice is that? We didn't even know till after he was gone and the waitress came and told us. Apparently there are still some incredibly nice people in the world!)

Baby Shower
I went to a baby shower for my darling girlfriend Jamie last weekend and had to whip up some cute stuff! She is having little boy #2 so I enjoyed making some more boy stuff!
Can't wait for baby Peyton to arrive!
None of this is in my Etsy shop but if you ever see anything you like, I would gladly do a custom order!

Baby Lockdown
Violet is all over the place now. She will probably be walking here anyday now. She can stand up by herself without even using something to stand up with. Just boom- sit to knees to standing. I don't think I'm ready for it! Her favorite thing to do right now is make messes... GIANT messes... EVERYWHERE she goes. I fold the laundry and put it in the basket- she pull it out. I put the clothes in the dryer and she comes and pulls them out as I am doing it. She dumps the dog food bowls three times minimum a day. She takes all of the magazines out of the rack every day. I try to pick up some of her toys and she comes right over to take them back out of the basket. It is CRAZY! I can't pick up fast enough. I can't get anything done. She can now crawl up the stairs too which is terrifying. So I pulled out the pack'n'play. Baby Lockdown is now a part of our daily life. Why wasn't I doing this sooner?
side note: I have since ordered a "baby jail". It is a baby gate area where she can play and have room and make all the messes she wants... Can't wait for it to get here.

Loving the Weather
The weather was nice and warm so we set up Violet's adorable mini pool. We had to put it in the front yard because the dogs would tear it up. This little thing is so dang cute. It's perfect size for her complete with a sun shade. Less than $20 at Walmart. She LOVED it. Seeing a bathing suit on my little butter ball was the highlight of it all. How cute is that belly?
Yesterday my Mom was over dropping Violet off and we were showing her the pool. Miss V climbed right in, clothes and all. This girl loves water!
